Background on WDC SOLAR
WDC Solar, founded in 2009 by NBA-player- turned-entrepreneur Mark Davis, is one of the nation’s first African-American owned and operated solar panel installation companies.

In 2012, Mr. Mark Davis, engaged the Anacostia Economic Development Corporation (AEDC) to assist him in growing his business. Through the assistance and guidance of AEDC Business Counselors, Mark Davis was able to secure contract opportunities, develop his business plan and marketing strategies as well as expand his business.

In addition to solar system installation services, WDC Solar provides community workshops that are designed to educate the community as to the advantages of installing solar PV systems. WDC Solar also provides hands-on job training to low- income residents, at no cost, giving many of them a legitimate opportunity for future employment in the burgeoning Green industry.

Recent Developments

In January 2016, Mr. Mark Davis joined First Lady Michelle Obama in the president’s guest box as President Barack Obama delivered his final State of the Union address.

On January 25 and September 24, 2016, Mr. Mark Davis was invited by AEDC to showcase his community based business to 27 distinguished individuals from around the world.

To date, WDC Solar has employed 22 people and has completed 125 solar installations, including 110 in low-income communities, 15 on schools and municipal buildings. The company has trained 60 workers, including 20 entry level solar installers in the area.

WDC Solar has expanded its D.C.-based company by hosting workshops in Harlem.

WDC Solar would like to thank SBA, DC SBDC, and especially AEDC for their valuable support to expand WDC Solar. Mr. Mark Davis plans to expand the company’s operations to Atlanta and Baltimore in the next couple of years.
