The D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center and Covington & Burling LLP are sponsoring a free virtual brief advice legal clinic to assist small businesses and nonprofits that have employees who regularly work in Washington, D.C. in understanding the basics of on-boarding employees. The virtual clinic will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A link will be sent to confirmed registrants.
The topics covered include:
- Employment application practices, including offer letters and compliance with local Ban-the-Box laws;
- Notice of Hire forms and how to follow other Wage Theft Prevention Act requirements;
- Form I-9 compliance;
- Proper benefits enrollment for new employees; and
- Ensuring new employees understand and acknowledge employee policies.
Your nonprofit or small business will meet with attorney volunteers one-on-one to conduct a basic review of your nonprofit’s or small business’ on-boarding policies.
The attorney volunteers will not provide on-going representation to your nonprofit or small business. The purpose of the legal clinic is to familiarize your organization with good on-boarding practices.
